Secrets about Muenster cheese

Muenster cheese is a traditional cheese of Alsace, France. Most people get confused with some mild versions of cheese which are available in several other parts of world. Perfect Muenster is made of yellow creamy to orange cantered along with dark red rind. It is usually noted by its assertive scent and flavour although some young Muenster’s are quite mild in nature. There are several popular diaries which offer such kind of cheese to the interested people or to cheese lovers. Some people are really mad about the taste of this kind of cheese because its aroma is just marvellous.

The Muenster cheese is from Alsace and it was first discovered in monasteries by monks but they always tried to find several ways to preserve this kind of cheese. The pungent aroma of this cheese attracts cheese lovers from all over the world. The raw milk is often used for the formation of Muenster and some diary owners follow the series of steps for the formation of formidable cheese. Muenster is also considered as washed cheese which simply means that the rind of cheese is washed periodically during its manufacturing. It results in enhancing the flavour and strong smell of cheese.

There is also a traditional way to create Muenster cheese which is produced by farmers. They make this type of cheese by rubbing it with hands with rock solution, water and salt. It allows the bacteria to grow rapidly and it creates a pungent aroma which is the speciality of this kind of cheese. The bacteria growth also prevents the mould from developing. The maturation process takes place around one week and these are properly brushed or washed so as to achieve the best quality. When it comes to taste, it has powerful aroma and it has creamy taste. The Muenster is often advised to be eaten with finely chopped onions and baked potatoes.

This kind of cheese is actually semi firm in nature. It is quite soft and is yellow in colour. The smell is mild but it becomes much strong as the time passes by. It has around forty five percent of fats and has one hundred and five calories in one oz. It is also available in North American type which is supple, moist and pale in nature. The French Muenster is manufactured from both un-pasteurized and pasteurized milk. Muenster cheese is best served with wine.
