Feta cheese

Feta cheese can be made from cow, sheep and goat milk takes a minimum period of three months to get ready. The taste of this cheese is salty however the salty taste can be adjusted according to taste, it is of white colour and it is usually made in four cornered cakes. In some countries like in Greece, the feta cheese is only made from the goat milk. At some places sheep’s and goat’s milk are mixed together and then processed to make the white tasty salty feta cheese. Some other known countries which manufacture this cheese are – Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia, Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, Australia, Iran, Germany and Denmark. This cheese is called by different names in different countries but the making process is same every where. It was during Byzantine time when the known feta cheese was been developed.

These days at most of the places this cheese is made from the cow’s milk. The milk is curdled with rennet and later separated from the whey. Then the salt upon the curd block, slabs are sliced and then they are salted once again. The best considered use of this cheese is in salads along with green vegetables, olive and tomatoes. Due to the presence of salt in the cheese it gets easy to store and maintain the good taste for longer time. Some times the saltiness seems excess in the cheese but it can also be reduced easily by soaking the cheese for some time in water or milk before eating.

In relation to health, this cheese has different parameters. The huge content of sodium and cholesterol may be bad for many people where as the presence of proteins and B12, Riboflavin, phosphorous, calcium, is good for health. The high saturated fat is another thing present in it which makes a person to think seriously before using it in the diet. The presence of bacteria known as the Listeria in the cheese does not prove to be healthy diet for the pregnant women. Even as feta cheese has some positive as well as negative traits but still they possess the ability to make different cuisines wonderfully tasty. It is widely used in different Greek cuisines which are almost all the time praised by the eaters. Among the different varieties of cheese, this cheese has successfully made its own place and there are many people in different parts of the world who desire tasting the wonderful cheese.
